Crusty ole' Bird by Alisa JsShe rides deep in thunder-a-tion
Across the tides and angry skies
Searching no, longing for that other life
The one she knew
Way back when
Before the cocks came to roost
And bent Mother Goose
Ruined that nursery rhyme, but bad!
Searching frantically for one last smoke
She remembers she quit years ago
Time lags as the coffee brews
Bacon and eggs again for one
Never two,
That was so long ago, she remembers it now
As she bends over to take that one last drag
Footsteps shuffle across the bathroom floor
Scurry back to bed
Sleep until dawn
Throw out the candlesticks
Melt this hot wax
Lighters drawn for fun and games
How long has it been
And will she ever know again the taste of a kiss
Or is this all there is?
She inquires of herself,
Bittersweet memories
And on second thought,
Theyre not all theyre cracked up to be
Gnomes in the grass
Flowers on the footpath
Never enough
Always too late
Carry me back to before
Before we all flew south
