Author's Note: This is #3 of 60 original haiku and paintings I am sending to participants following an old tradition from Japan by sending a New Year's greeting card called a Nengajyou [or nengajô] to haiku friends who signed up to participate. Somewhere on the card, if you can, include the jyunishi (zodiac sign) for 2008 (the year of the rat) and the words *Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu* (Happy New Year). Then add a new year’s haiku that you have written, and send a postcard to each participant on the snail mail list. Most send one haiku on a printed card to all. I am writing a response haiku to each I receive, it's an interesting, inspiring project!
