year's end (haiku)

by Kathleen Wilson

years' end on half-moon bay
cormorrant flapping
dries its wings

Author's Note: This 2 of 60 original art works I am sending as part of a group from 15 different countries, following an old tradition from Japan by sending a New Year's greeting card called a Nengajyou [or nengajô] to haiku friends who signed up to participate. One can use a purchased postcard – or one you design yourself. In this case I am painting original and writing a response haiku for each poet, as they send them to me. Somewhere on the card, one includes the jyunishi (zodiac sign) for 2008 (the year of the rat) and the words *Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu* (Happy New Year). Then add a new year’s haiku that you have written, and send a postcard to each participant whose snail mail address appears below.

You know I have a "thing" for the Ku and you've written another literal and visual beauty!
