To a Man with a Crook by Brian Francis To a Man with a Crook
In the still of the night, alone in this place
With a crook by his side the shepherd awaits
he thinks of the stories he’s heard through his life
Of the night that the angels did sing
Others, like him, heard their heavenly song
And listened intently inspired by awe
As the angels appeared in the sky that night
Hallelujah was heard from on high
And the gift was announced not to a king
Nor to a merchant, a soldier, or priest
Instead in the hills to a man with a crook
Did the angels appear with their song
Hallelujah was heard in the sky that night
And the shepherds witnessed for all mankind
Blessed be man in the eyes of God
Hallelujah, Hallelujah the Savior is born
