When Love Calls Once More by Tony Whitaker
Hobbled and helpless
her arms at once
enchanted and chained
as her eyes lied
until I cried
then she was gone
and all alone
the only sounds
those old love songs
until gagged
by the gall
at the self-pity
and the pall
and so life goes
full of laughter and woes
so when the call of love
sounds once more
say feets dont fail
as you turn
and run
through the door

Author's Note: I appreciate the comment changing feets to feet. But as a white man from the South, this is one way of showing my respect for an oppressed people with the use of a common term that many see as stereotypical, I see as freedom of speech and allowing for differences in how we speak. Read my poems "Let Freedom Ring", "The Blues Are Born", "Perspective" and "Always Time For Me" a co-worker and African Americann who stands as a true hero to me. It stays as "feets", but I respect your concern.
