begging and sleeping

by Meghan Helmich

please say something
honest and pleasant,
out of character.
this is my forte, asking
for that which you don't have.

i dropped a swollen comment
of proposal. your grimace
speaks leather-bound vespers,
and i can barely contain
the familiar sense of loss.

captured images that i place
in straight frames and hang
on the bare walls of home -
they don't really pretend
to be as much as i hope.

my will to swallow it all
so nothing can escape
has become a crusade, wholly
encompassing with knitted,
grasping fingertips.

this is very intimate and i could almost see it, or feel it, one. third stanza especially screams out to me, just perfect.
