winter solstice

by Mary Frances Spencer

shortest day
longest night
festive celebrations
throughout the earth
ancient temples
evergreens adorned
align this still sun
pausing a low arc
over

and we go within
projecting shafts of light
into the darkness
pivotal candles
hope and purpose
illuminate
spiritual rebirth
sparkling
warmth and joy
to find our way
again

every ending
shines new
beginning

Author's Note: Winter Solstice is this Friday! I like to think of it as a time to reflect and renew. MFS
