WORDS WHIRL

by George Hoerner

words whirl whispering
through my mind
leaving me to wonder which
ones will sway you

what sequence - what comparison
will strike you still
and fill you

a lost art this means
of communication
the ancient art of sensitivity

where words were unnecessary
where a wind or willow or
whispering rain were sufficient

when where what why
will my words weigh
in your mind

or is the way a look
an obvious longing
eyes burning
deep into your soul

or sighs searching out your depths
a glance that tears away façade
and goes to the
heart and says yes

wondering hesitant yet
determined to see
hoping expectant

eyes set above a sometimes
simple smile saying

do you see what i
am saying with my eyes

do you know what i am
seeing with my eyes

or does a look
even longing say it
or will a touch it

the truth tender
delicate tentative
yet sure of purpose

testing for response
a hand brushing hand
sensitivity searching
for the nerves

simply
walking side by side
together touching
a hand pressed

lip to lip
warmth
a fullness found
a strength felt

O lost language
are you half found
can we call you forth to communicate

A beautiful "whirl" into the "lost art of sensitivity" --I love all the possibilities of wordless speech. And it's a "yes" poem too! I love this part especially "when where what why/ will..." Yes.

i love the opening stanza, yes, it certainly swayed me, my lips into a smile! great poem.
