Never the Same Again by Tony WhitakerFriends forever
we said that night
before turning gray
where are they now
nearing the dusk
of our mortal day
Before we go
I must share
one memory made
in the magic
of one morning
where we morphed in
our brand new day
The clubs
and bars behind
gave witness
to our adolescent dance
five
Mr. Goodbars
stalking
their one night romance
A band of brothers
soared to sit
on a mountain high
on LSD
El Paso behind us
in late 73
A face
full moons setting
laughing
down at us
ethereal tunes
(from the road down below
our beat up beige Buick)
first time
full sensing
Dark Side of the Moon
We stare
in awe soaking
psychoactive sight
man-made borealis
across a perfect painted desert
pre-dawn sky
sweeping fields of
enraptured rods
of minds eye
Suddenly Sol
cloaked in gold
Mother Earth sets free
from some far off shelf
her gilded globe
colors all aglow `
becoming one
with the desert
far below
and we bow to our sun
we see at once
the meaning of life
aside
our self-filled souls
Yes I used
psychotropics
some say was sin
abusing drugs
IS for the coward
escaping their within
But until
you kiss the sky
as found my forefathers
way back then
as a band of brothers
(though long ago
I know they know)
found that morning within
that God is us
and we are God
never the same again

| Posted by George Hoerner on 12/16/07 at 10:56 PM Very reflective of parts of my life. So many friends lost to inept attention. So far only one from those early days and she refuses to acknowledge my presence except via the occasional email. Oh how I wish I had been more attentive. Now only the ethereal connection to a very few. So I try to forge ahead with new friends but time flies so fast. So many memories. Great write! Great rememberances! |
