Looking in the Mirror

by Erin Jones

looking in the mirror
not believing what i see
this really can't be me
this empty ghost
that looks back at me
must have taken the place
of my personality
i must be imagining
this thing i see before me
i guess i must have left
i don't know where i went
but this really isn't me
this is someone else
pretending to be me

looking in the mirror
not believing what i see
who is this person
staring back at me
her eyes seem so empty
her smile is so dull
her sadness shines through
the crevasse of her soul
who is this girl
that i see before me
she is not me, never will be
this is someone else
pretending to be me

Author's Note: I'm thinking about changing lines 10 and 11 of the first stanza, but I'm not sure....

'who is this girl
that i see before me'
. Now who is this girl who is questioning, ' who is this girl'?
The one who confronts, the one who brings all the answers within the periphery of questions, the one, one intends to become is the one who ought to BE. The so called real self is what one intends to become.A thinking poem bringing one face to face, the moments of realization.
