"The World Can Wait" by Max PhineasYou watch the kids
Get their fifteen minutes
(It's not your style to come center stage)
The wars you've waged
When it's heart versus reason
Have taken their toll;
your weather-worn voice
screams silently out
The glint in your eye grows dimmer,
for a moment
and I know it's another small battle
You've lost to the elements within.
I know I can't smooth rough edges
Round sharp corners
Or iron out creases in your brow
But please just let me
Set at ease your soul
If just for a moment,
So you'll smile. 12/14/2007

I agree too, it's so beautiful. Yes, it does sound like something a Mother would say to her child. Great write. Keep them coming. :) |
