"The World Can Wait"

by Max Phineas

You watch the kids
Get their fifteen minutes

(It's not your style to come center stage)

The wars you've waged
When it's heart versus reason
Have taken their toll;

your weather-worn voice
screams silently out

The glint in your eye grows dimmer,
for a moment
and I know it's another small battle
You've lost to the elements within.

I know I can't smooth rough edges
Round sharp corners
Or iron out creases in your brow

But please just let me
Set at ease your soul
If just for a moment,

So you'll smile.

This is beautiful. Just beautiful. :)

You continue on with you "wisdom" poetry, but now you're learning that the world doesn't always agree with you or anyone else. The last 2 stanzas and the last line, appear as if they are something a mother might say to a daughter.

Hi Callie, I agree too, it's so beautiful. Yes, it does sound like something a Mother would say to her child. Great write. Keep them coming. :)
