You were the first one, so very fine,

Way back in nineteen sixty-nine.

I did not know what I was doing,

Just that parts of me were spewing

Poetry and other such nonsense.

(I wasn't making much sense.)

Though I remember that I tried,

In the end, I merely lied.

When I told you that I loved you,

I just said it to say it, I was untrue.
