redefine: winter.

by Aaron Michael

how easy it is
to forget what lies
beneath a snow drift.
the harder winter hits
the less you remember
about and prior seasons
and you feel like a child,

dreaming of fire logs
and hot chocolate
and the wonder
of what's been wrapped
and what's been hidden
under that white sheet
of flakes and ice.

snowmen are still
as real as you make them,
angels are everywhere
if you take the time
for glances,
and everyone has the choice
to be an elf or a scrooge

and there is a place
by the fire for both.

Yes, I think somehow snow can make anyone (uh, except those who are driving) feel like a kid again. I don't think snowball fights, snow angels, along with hot chocolate (once you come in from the cold), and snowmen have an age limit. Maybe it's the contrast of being outside and having fun and then going inside to the love and warmth that makes winter what it is. Thank you for the memories of snow-filled days.
