Relentless Reminders

by Erin Jones

Looking at these marks
They stare at me
Eat at me

Remembering that day
The razor blade
Wasn’t just for play

The other scars have faded
But these, they remain
Staring at me
Eating through my skin

Life should have been over
I should have pressed harder
Should have cut deeper
But it’s too late now
And all that is left
Are these white, searing marks
Lying on my skin

I'm so glad you're here. Not that knowing that makes a big difference or any difference at all. But for your pain to have a voice, and to hear it as clearly as you say it, is just....no one else could say it the way you do.
