Mentally Okay

by Erin Jones

I’m sitting, shaking
Remembering earlier
When for but a moment
I thought I was normal
Half asleep – off in thought
Thought for a minute
My wrist wasn’t cut
That I was mentally okay
It isn’t fair
I used to be okay
Never would have thought
I’d be here
But now I am
And it’s too late

Sort of a juxtaposed reality, one where there is the wished for "normal" and one where there is the stark evidence of something not right enough that a wrist is cut. And an air of casual that just puts the whole piece into shocking perspective. Effectively written!
