Night Swim

by Kathleen Wilson

almost
oveflowing

time changed
pool light's still out

no moon
swims

small bird swept
up into eaves

yesterday
tonight

low flying wings
sound unseen

I spread
arms breast

stroking dark
water surface of leaves

small poolside lamps alone
show yellow and brown

each leaf in hand
a slow examine and release

hibiscus hearts
forsythia points

one by one
azalea rounds

lapped
gatherings

star patterns
sky tree strewn

and I
back and forth

swim toward paradise
on either shore

when sudden bloom of light burst timely
on later hour

afloat direct to sun
eyes open body rapt in glow

see steamy rise
in cold night grow

shadows of my crested waves
go high against lit towered walls

A night swim sounds perfect right about now. There is a place I like to go in Oregon in the high desert, a native-american owned resort that fills a pool with hot springs water. Though I haven't yet been, I hear the most amazing experience is going on a winter night, when the water is hot and the snow is falling...

your night swim strokes are beautifully timed exercises. I lap each couplet up and must remember to breathe...

I think Greg is on the wave length about you. ;) And I dive in with a splashing agreement.

This is a real delight with each read. Beautiful and a phantasm of poetic imagery and grace!
