"Daddy, I Called You"

by Cristy M.

It wasn't you
leaving me abandoned:

He answered before it'd rung,
not being at all my daddy,
promptly hung it up.

I told him that I'd
the wrong number, but I lied.
Last night, my daddy died.

Author's Note: Since I called, I've rewritten it about a thousand times. Incidentally, my daddy-dna is alive and well. This is about the only man I've called "daddy" since I was ten, Paul aka Shawnelle McD.(!!!)
