This is the Man I Love

by Erin Jones

This here,
this is the man I love.
  I cry my eyes out
              and,
yes,
this is the man I love.
  I say I am happy
as I beg for release of
                my misery,
but yes,
this is the man I love.
  When I am with him
I am the happiest person on earth,
            even better when we're alone,
but when apart I am utterly sad,
              but this,
here,
this is the man I love.
  As he pisses me off
        I'm about to cry,
and yet,
this is the man I love.
  I hate him so much
              but,
as you know,
this is the man I love.
  He doesn't even know
        the pain he causes me
yet
this is the man I love.
  He laughs and he plays
              THIS,
THIS HERE,
this is the man I love.
I look up and see him looking at me,
he smiles and I return it,
and
this is the man I love.
I watch him as he sleeps,
        eyes closed,
            gorgeous,
this is the man I love.
I fall asleep thinking of him,
        dream of him,
            wake up to him,
this is the man I love.
This is the man I love.

love/hate, not opposites but extremes of the same passion. cautionary note: don't give up who you are in order to be with 'the man you love'.
