Welcome To Your New Career - A Villanelle

by Tony Whitaker

Welcome to your new career
a teacher of men is a noble role
give praise as you face this new frontier

Fog of a future now burns clear
time to leave the old water hole
welcome to your new career

To many this mountain so austere
for you slow strolls up the knoll
give praise as you face this new frontier

The spoils go to those who persevere
these will now feed your soul
welcome to your new career

It appears the way for you is clear
and those you teach shall soon extol
give praise as you face this new frontier

As in the “Sun Also Rises” allow your Brett to disappear
like Jake you’ve found what makes you whole
welcome to your new career
give praise as you face this new frontier

Author's Note: I haven't written a Villanelle in quite some time. My good friend Mark Burns, twice the replay official in two Super Bowls, is realizing a new career in HR with our company. something he should have been doing all his life. A real natural and a gem for a soul!

Wonderfully flowing accolade. I do love a villanelle. Great read.
