The Power of Our Voice

by Harold Millican

The Power of Our Voice

What I don’t want to here is how bad someone made you feel

Because then you become caught up with their problem

What I don’t want to here, is how many problems you had to deal with

I just want to here about how you solved them

I don’t want to hear about the things you didn’t do anything about

Instead of talking to me, you could be working them out

My mind has no place for your worries or arguments

I’d rather have a real solution to issues that I am dealing with

I wish not to hear about the agony of dealing with another particular person

Because someday you may need them soon

I would much rather hear about music, a great song or tune

I wish not to venture to your religion

Because over this there is severed light, there is too much bloodshed over it

I wish not to fight, there are so many views, and each one is conflicting

So lets just share our love for each other, because time is precious and ticking

I don’t want to know about your relatives

Without a firm knowledge of you

But it could be interesting to discuss your hobbies, and what you like to do

I’ll partake of your thoughts and make provisions to hear or listen

But that doesn’t necessarily mean, I’m agreein’ with what you’re pitchin’

I don’t want to hear about elements of the past

Because I’m here for the new and now

But if I need to know about it, I’ll get you to show me how

I don’t want to hear your perception of what’s so right and wrong

I don’t care to hear about that fudge

Because I’m not taking names, and I’m no one’s judge

I won’t listen to you, tear someone down

Because it’s harder to build them back up

I want you to be that one voice

That support that fills that empty vessel or cup

Step up and be an extroverted inspiration

Quit playing the crazed spectator only gripping gossip and roundabout information

Take responsibility and assume the care of you

Because relationships come and go, but the responsible and resilient are mighty and few

I’d rather face admitted mistakes

Than agonized defeat and heartbreak,

I only live once and there’s only so much I can take

I don’t want to have much to do with tradition

Because tradition can die so young

I would rather you be a bit open

A bit vibrant and fun

Since life is precious, priceless

Our happiness is a choice

If we listen, the message is simple

We can impact the world with one voice

If we stop being over-analytical

And take care and consideration for our self

We can help others take the first step to cleaning up their shelf

With understanding and genuine love, we’ll see the sun shine through

Well work it out between us, and see what is true
