Conjugation

by David Garner

I believe in miracles.
You believe in tea.
He believes in nothing.
She believes in me.
It believes in unicorns, “There’s one up in the tree!”

We believe in magic.
You both believe in leaves.
They believe in nothing except for make-believe.

I agree to go to France.
You agree in May.
He agrees as well if
She agrees to pay.
It agrees to everything, “Let’s go there every day!”

We agree to disagree.
You both agree to stay.
They agree it’s time to go, “Can you pay your way?”

I belong to Paris.
You belong to glee.
He belongs in a loony bin.
She belongs to me.
It belongs where it belongs and screams out, “C’est la vie!”

We belong beside the river.
You both belong to travels.
They belong to the philosophy that everything unravels.

I love the cappuccino.
You love the brie.
He loves the Moulin Rouge.
She loves me.
It loves the way we figure out how to let it be.

We love the city lights.
You both love the Seine.
They love the European clothes and the European men.

Absolutely playful and brilliant springing from the "I, You, She, He, It, We, You, They," conjugation of all verbs... and examination of action and language. Amazing adea, beautifully expressed, with detailed interest, a touch of the surreal and arbitrary, just as life is. I love it.
