The Listener

by Oliver Drewman

And you have now become
The Confidant
The wearer of peace
For restless souls
Braced against the barren world

You now have become
The Comforter
To wounded souls
In the midst of war
Crying alone in the field, “Why?”

You are now
The Caring One
A light in the window
A shining guide in the road
For those souls in darkness
Lost and forgotten

Now you
The Compassionate
Bearing true faith
As cool refreshing water
To thirsty souls
In parched desolation

You
The Christ’s
Reflection of rest
To sleepless souls
A calming whisper in the night
Against the destroying gloom
