Monument

by J. P. Davies

built her up
made a statue
and then I prayed
that God would take her worry
and bleed it all away

buried my heart
in a jar of oil and water
perfectly preserved
in a state of disarray
a thousand shades of grey

took her memory
and sanctified it
made it holy, made it pure
gave it up to heaven
and removed it from my world
