Adieu by Joe CramerI bid you good-bye, farewell and adieu.
There was once delight in our love, anon.
Now these moments are far too distant, few,
A scorned woman's love, forgotten, all gone.
Men are so unaware of all they hate,
Not so knowledgeable of what they love.
If there is but delight in you, love's fate,
The season of hell, once heaven above.
Love was unseen, one more kiss, then we part.
It is virtue, being a man, to try.
Severed are the bonds of my broken heart,
Virtue is denied, not mine to deny.
Farewell, adieu my love, now full of woe,
Whence it doth lead me, I cannot yet go. 01/16/1987 Posted on 11/25/2007 Copyright © 2025 Joe Cramer

Posted by Steven Kenworthy on 11/26/07 at 03:01 PM wow...i stumbled upon this and found a serious shakespearean flavor/quality. i am not a sonnet writer, but did appreciate the heartbreak and pretty-ish flow of this poem. sadness makes the heart work harder for happiness...there is always silver lining. great write indeed. |
