Masochist by Trisha De GraciaHow many ways
can one man colour
a uterus black
before he forgets
his own mother?
Sheds his own skin
cracks out of a cold
and leathery egg
and slithers away
through the grass?
Or was it the mother
in a shallow nest
that packaged him up
and dropped him out
like a crate?
How many ways
can one man have
contempt for a mistress,
take pains
to swallow the sun?
There is nothing in him There is nothing in him
that scares me. 11/17/2007 Posted on 11/18/2007 Copyright © 2024 Trisha De Gracia

Posted by Coleman Demiurge on 11/18/07 at 08:37 AM You definitely know how to open a poem, that's for sure. Amazing opening lines to be sure, and the rest of the poem more than lives up to them. Actually the forth stanza is my favorite with the lines:- "take pains to swallow the sun?". Not sure why exactly, but that part really came out to me. Anyway, a superb piece all a round; excellent work. Fitting title too - Always better to receive than to give... Or something like that. |
