map

by Mary Frances Spencer

i am slowly
clearing
a path to
the truth
tossing obstacles
like pebbles
overhead
kicking away
the ruins
accumulated debris
toppling as i
slice through the tangle
fear and uncertainty
on the edge
of my machete
I slog through
muddy waters
emotion and lethargy
humor and intention
a pair of
rubber boots
sometimes sinking
in step with the now
i shed the skins
i start this safari
as soon as
i imagine
the map

Love the tangible elements of this--mixed with abstract... really a strength in your poetry, I think. The "rubber boots", the "map", the "machete" the "muddy waters"... mixed with "truth" "fear" and "uncertainty". Yes.

Love these final lines: as soon as i imagine the map I think this really brings it all together.
