exoskeleton

by Mary Frances Spencer

exo
skeleton
brittle and protective
shield
barrier
a shelter
a block
many wear it
rigid steel
hard shell
impenetrable
but if
one could
chisel
away
slow and steady
with patience
sculpt
a piece of art
work with
the stone
the beauty
within
that radiant
center
can shine out
even from
a narrow hole
in the armor
and that which
is imprisoned
can
release it's soft glow
one crack
at a time
