unwinding

by Mary Frances Spencer

without
gravity
we get out of
the head
and into
free floating
physical
movement
peeling rinds off
past layers
unravelling
tightly wound spools
of memory
we swim
through traumas' tides
inside
underneath and
away
releasing
bubbles
angst
pain
loosening fists
full of raw sand
so we can
dive again
deeper
surfacing to this
moment
now is
the perfect time
for
unwinding

Author's Note: This is a new massage modality I am learning how to facilitate, involving movement as a form of release. MFS

I especially love the image of "loosening fists full of raw sand" that resolves int the "dive"-- so shore to wide ocean is what it feels like...

As I read this I sensed a release of problems like bubbles into the air. I also felt the build up of emotion from start to finish, so that by the end of the poem, there was excitement and laughter! This, too, is going on my favorites.
