Intimate Salvation

by Steven Craig

Intimate Salvation

It is always true
That there is in your life
A power that prevents your falling
Holds you in the winter winds
Whispers encouragement into your cold ears
Points to the guiding star
The path your life will take.

For so many early years
You could not see
What it was that was there
In patient waiting your moment of recognition
It was bundled in the pack
Carried with all the other precious memories
That others perchance would have cast away long ago.

All along that journey
There are still the burning ruins
The broken forests
The battle grounds where you faired
Or bankrupt
Scattered derbies of your life
Those that crossed that path you took
Some joining for a while
Others scattering at first encounter.
Such a dark path at times
Such a joyous one at others
It bounded with the inconsistent manner
Your being human.

You wondered at the incite of each day
How it was that you were there
To deal with what was the ruin
Of the previous night.
From yesterdays corpse
You rose to take your standard
Unfurl its love anew
Stood to the test of each days time
Bearing the tides
That would come
No matter your own desires.

There is at the end of that path
No sword
No shield
None stronger than your own
It took such a journey to discover
That it was yours all along.
You carried it to this spot
Your moment of awakening
Realized that you are the one
Chosen to sing his song
Work his will
Feel his soft touch upon your shoulder.

For some of us
It does take the journey though hell
To find intimate salvation.
