ARROZ by Carlos IX (Abecedarian. Down and up. )

by David Garner

ARROZ
by
Carlos IX
dives into the world of the undertow,
enriches your literary nutrition like you're reading through an I.V.
"Fuck me! I'm going impromptu!"
gets me every single time. What
history and psychosis
injects every line. A real page turner.
Just when you thought you had settled down with your own I.Q.,
KAPOW! You learn something new about trees and the chemical compounds of sap.
Listen, I know it's not for everyone, but my friends here in Chicago
made me read it, and I am so glad I did. My favorite line is on page sixteen:
"No one, not even God, could dream a better dream."
Open the book to any page and you will
purr with delight. "I took
qualudes, smoked clove cigarettes, ate pita and baba gannouj
religiously for twenty-eight years and still I
shiver with the fresh
twitch of eggplant breath and geographical longing."
Under the back flap on the dust jacket, I even found a leaf
vacuum-packed and pressed onto the back of the book and spine!
What a novel indeed!
X-rated and full of sexual, chronic
yearning. You can't just thumb
zealously through this work of fiction. At its finest, this is literary utopia!

Author's Note: Abecedarian. Down and up. First line begins with A and ends in Z, then B and Y, then C and X, then D and W, and so on. It's a poem about a ficticious book, ARROZ, by Carlos IX.
