on fire

by Mary Frances Spencer

we are all
on fire
burning
with anger
frustration
the unanswered
the unknown
just a spark
can set us off
all of that
dry tinder
chaparral past
un-cleared boundaries
we build upon the edge
precarious zone
wanting that view
no matter danger
risk
we desire remoteness
with amenities
the narrow
winding
road
to a possible
disaster
ashes to ashes
material transformed
smoky red sun
hot santa ana's
blow
it all out
bring on
a storm
cool our heels
hose it down
soothe
these steaming emotions
soon
before we blow

Author's Note: Another one inspired by the recent fires...maybe I should combine with "smolder". MFS

I do think these two poems could be combined to good effect... but perhaps isolate why they ARE separate, and be sure not to lose that. They are both powerful, and the psychological equivalents important.

A most interesting comparison of the physical fires and the "fires" of emotion.
