underneath

by Mary Frances Spencer

tell me
what is under
all of those veils
the layers
we wear
proudly
or unconsciously
that on
occasion
get blown apart
or ripped
off
like lace shredding in
the wind
or
a shroud unwinding like a spool
and for a moment
reveal
the true self
the
inside
the face
of God
does peek out
if we
let go
of the curtain...

Author's Note: I like to peek underneath the veils...Anyone else? I'm new here and finding it hard to categorize my poems. Thanks for reading! MFS

Mysterious essential unveiling, going inside to unwrap the ordinary to lay bare the extraordinary. A fascinating focus and inner light.
