The Contented Embrace

by Harold Millican

The Contented Embrace

Embrace the quiet
The entire negative, we’ll erase
Take in the golden silence
And love the infinite space
We must listen to find the contented embrace

Feel the mole that makes you whole
And hope for what is tomorrow
Keep a smile on your face
And love in your heart
For only temporary is your sorrow
Whenever what we face is tied like a tight shoelace
We must listen to find the contented embrace

For the years and fears of this life become only a part
Of the special people we can be
And you never know what part you could play in the vastness of history

Find the light in your life
The spectrum of color that makes you free
For all the pain that we bare, become so minute
When we look back at life’s debris
Find the piece that makes you care
To reap the contentment that the humble share
All of this and more will take its place
When we listen to find the contented embrace

We must take our canvas
And paint it well, even though
Sometimes in others eyes we fail
In order to curtail and eliminate the demons of hell
We must fight the current equation
Not for lies or persuasion
But for equal ground no matter what the sound
We must fight for our cause
We’ll learn to look deeper, even beyond what we perceive
Even though no one believes
We’ll confront the prejudice that we see
But how can we, if we don’t face and claim the contented embrace
And let go of our shame

We can shine
For there are golden moments
In the sands of our lives
The future is all our own
We must harness the sight not the blind
And be a fighter, and believe we can succeed
For we can
We must find our niche
Or own precious defining purpose
On this land
And then the goodness we crave
Will find its space
And we will see the boundless beauty of each one of us
The contented embrace
