The Lesson

by Harold Millican

The Lesson

Life is a complex roller coaster that could drain us if not slowed.
It can paralyze our ambitions; alter us entirely, if we fail to minimize our stress load

Time and Time again,
It’s hard for the calmness to be there
But we must avoid those holes and spirits that keep us with worry and despair

We must take some control of our wellness today
Because we may be sorry, and tomorrow may be too late

We make the decision to hold on to relationships despite the hurt they cause
In turn, this decision hurts us most, like the pouncing of a wildcat’s claws
We give the person who hurt us, more than just a chance
Hoping for a rekindled love, during a last encountering dance
Neglecting the happiness we both need in this effort, too often we are startled to find
That even though the truth of the heart shone through

We were all the more too blind
Desperate for a future, we pull and tried to make the effort work and enjoy the ride
But the other half of the team, no longer wanted in
Left alone, we grieve, we forget how to live where to reboot, begin

Don’t let that happen you
Please read and decipher the signs
Because not everyone is easily going to communicate what they feel inside

The sun will shine if you let it come in
If you open the door to the future, the healing starts
And then, you can emerge, as a free butterfly
Affected, but with the chapter closed, putting the past behind

Learn this lesson well, your happiness matters the most
Take the lead in that driver’s seat, let go of your hurt
Don’t be afraid to slow down and coast
Even though society is paced speedy
That doesn’t mean we need be constantly
Never be afraid to say no to the spirits that don’t make free

No one controls you
You control yourself
Don’t stress out so much; you may hurt yourself
Remember when you slow down
You can find a bit of peace
A happy release
