twoseater

by Frankie Sanchez

a deafening silence falls through a megaphone clenched by my iris
held up with two wrists
which extend into palms that grow branches with fingertips,
phalanges with fingerprints
that hold truth when they touch you
that touch truth when they hold you
like two eyes that don't have tongues to speak
of the beauty that they witness; when they're closed they see visions,
when opened they see fractions of light that shine through two ocular incisions,
it's a blind man's mind that challenges my existence,
my own perception is warped by a lack of super vision,
i am a beta release with no patch to correct my insecurity glitch,
i am passenger to a self-deprecating ego with a death wish,
i am self-doubt, and perception is my loyal sidekick,
i trust him enough to ride shotgun with no seat-belt as he drives me into a ditch
and i'll look just like this:
amused and deer-eyed, confused and tongue-tied,
the same way i am when i'm around you,
at a loss for words, searching for the syllables that slipped my mind,
they've become harder to find since i found you,
suddenly my self-perception has called my self-esteem into question,
and i've reached a point in my life where i really needed to learn one more lesson,
taking steps to carry my worth in a positive direction
as i release thoughts with no volume through a microphone cloaked by my eyelids
held up with two fists
made up of two palms attached to two wrists
at the end of two arms that found truth when they held you,
that hold truth when they find you
with a soul-searching silence that falls through a telephone held up to my lips,
a smile across my mouth as i wait for my tongue to make up my mind
and stir these thoughts until they become words into which my soul can confide,
then a confident whisper will fall through this megaphone of mine,
these words held as visions by my iris,
covered in blankets, protected by my eyelids,
lifted by my tongue and delivered through my lips... into your ear
and all i ask in return is that you tell me the truth,
what have i possibly done to deserve you...

Tears in my eyes. This is so incredibly beautiful. My admiration for this collection of well placed words is up there somewhere. A favorite and more.

this poem feels like a sweetrip. feels like a guided tour through the human anatomy...only with sexy rearview mirrors and busted hearts for steering wheels. the end of the piece is the ultimate punch in the guts (in a good way) and makes anyone who has emotion melt or evaporate...or whichever way you want to transform through science. the linked concepts of hands and arms and lips and back to the megaphone is like some crazy romantic body pinball game. this is probably one of the most intricately written poems i've come acrossed and for that i love it. this is exactly what true romance tastes like. something to envy by all means...
