BabyKiller

by Jersey D Gibson

Sent over seas to protect a country
fighting a war nobody wanted.
Name came up on the lottery
eighteen years old and off to war.

Left in that jungle for a year,
how I survived, I'll never know.

Now I'm back home, but home has changed
survived everything but your words.
Spit on me like I wanted your opinion
could you even relate to me?

Left me behind over there,
with the faces of all the fallen.

I see you standing there, pointing at me
I hear all your spite and angst.
What would you know, you've never been
woudn't know what it's like.

Left behind with nothing but nightmares,
and all the harm I've caused.

Author's Note: We live in a time when, during an unpopular war, the soldiers (sailors, marines, and airpeople) are supported. This wasn't always the case. Thanks to all of those who served, no matter the circumstances.
