obsession

crack my shell
and spill all
of this longing
at your feet
I would.
it burns so
deep it tastes
of bile
rank, decayed
I would give
back to the source
this butterfly
lodged within
my chest this
bearer of intensity
fluttering, where once
my heart beat
stolidly, implacable
I would retch
it all up
dredge plumb mine
every cavern
unstopper all
these holes
let it spew
back to you
instigator, catalyst
this then
is the other face
of love,
the one who dwells
within the murky

| Posted by Sarah Graves on 10/27/07 at 01:22 AM I think these strong images really connect with that word Obsession. It often feels that potent inside, whatever event causes it. I would argue that good and bad obsessions bring about that same emotional state of deadening. |

The concluding lines gave me a feast for thought...wondering if the 'other face of love' referred to emotional dissonance, or a contrast between the 'lover' and the 'obsessed'.
