Pumpkin Seed by Christopher ShinI saw them for the first time
today in the lonely days.
When Fall's wind never really
seemed so bleak.
Their smile forces
a greeting in return to their
twinkling fangs.
What is it in the enchantress
of the northeastern
lands so far off?
They promise so much
with their happy thoughts,
and their deep eyes.
Brown, was all I remember
as vinegar and salt
danced in our words.
Of broken diets and
sweatless workouts.
We talked about things
we found interesting.
And on this pumpkin seed
day I loved as a seed
could be cared for
in the gentle earth.
For a second a smile
made me love for merely tick I
was bound and held again,
but suddenly and forcefully it
was gone.
With much regret and
sudden hope like all
dreams I shook my
head and smiled.
