Closed Doors

by Alisa Js

it seemed more than a dream at the time
reality sketched those images seen in the back of my mind
visions of love and ever after whispered sweet,
with rainbows and scenes of skipping on stars
across horizons aglow with promises beaming
in the palms of our hands, if we but let them
ours for the asking, ours for the taking...

tomorrow held open that door with a smile
and curious, I stepped closer
with each beating breath,
such a wonder filled my romantic soul ...

was I was blind to the obvious
or deaf to the beat of the staggering surprise
of darkness and rage,
that fell across my face in an instant
shadows crept closer from before
memories long dead leaped back to action
while my heart staggered in mind crumbling disbelief
and I wondered, if this was the real dream ...

there is beauty in dew drops and rain
sadness can be found in a smile,
I will choose to remember the bittersweet joy
as I carefully protect the beauty and love felt,
from the harshness of life as it breezes by, sometimes unexpectedly
bringing cold winds of winter's freeze ...

I'll walk away with no regrets
as I gaze at this closed door before me,
for everything has it's season
lessons to learn in our journey called life
good, bad, happy or sad, for richer or poorer
treasures in an open book
springtime, summer, fall and the rest do teach
if we, but listen ...

I wish you all the happiness true love brings
one day you'll will find it, but not with me
maybe, we'll look back and remember these times
when we almost reached paradise,
when we almost tasted our dreams ...

Hi Alisa, Great write. It's so emtional, yet it's own beauty deep inside. Yet, kinda sad too. Letting go of a love, isn't easy. Yet, sometimes dreams can come true. Beautiful.
