A World of Smiles

by Thomas Powers

I smile with thoughts of how my lessons gave
New growth to num’rous teens, who knowledge sought.
They, too, now join me as we soon dare brave
Our new found freedom years of work have brought.

With unseen smiles exchanged from ‘cross the room
We two mark milestones since church bells did ring.
Then leave we there our smiles renewed, full bloom,
By fam’ly, friends who came for us to sing.

As many give their smiles to world so sad,
Soon joy is spread for all to share and find
Each day is sun soaked meadow, dressed in plaid,
With smiling children, pleasure of mankind

In life each smile foretells of joy, of how
Dark death departs; when ‘fore His face we bow.
