October 21, 2007 by Keith D AllisonThe breath of noon draws near
the wind plays a song on the window
Winter is here
come watch me, make the snow dance
The scalded milk flows into the cup
the smell of chocolate
as small white marshmallows celebrate
the cup and I move towards the window to watch this show
The Mountain in the distance
hidehi in a haze of gray
the trees along the creek
display their new coats, with colors to dazzle the eyes
The fenceposts with their new caps of snow
a blanket of white is being drawn across the field
alone pumpkin sets astonished
his face is not made up yet for the coming holiday
I drawback
smelling the pinion pine
hearing crackle of the fire
knowing one of my poems was read today
Life
the beauty of the first snow
the small wonders of the day
the treasures of the mind and soul

Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 10/21/07 at 11:10 PM Brrrrrr! What a wonderfully descriptive poem of the first snow of the season. (It hasn't even frosted here as yet!) Hot chocolate and fire in the fire place sound so very inviting! |
Posted by Alison McKenzie on 10/22/07 at 06:22 AM Oh. This is a taste of heaven as I imagine it. I love the hush the first snow puts on the worlds, forces everyone into quiet repose because if enough snow falls, everyone stays put and snuggles in. Mmmmmmm. |
