These Eyes

by Joe Cramer

These eyes hold the secret

To that empty space, the brain

Itself, the weight of the soul.

What does lie underneath,

Under that sheath

Of all we have come to know.

Such is the traverse that we take

This road to which we're on.

These constellations that guide our way

As does the beginning dawn.

Now waits the day as we see

All that lies behind and still before.

Such a secret holds the eye,

That ever unblinking gaze,

Yet undimmed, forever held

Until the end of days.
