When Eyelids Grow Distinctively Heavy by Jeffrey ParrenI type at the keys with feverish fury
as eyelids grow distinctively heavy
in the fear that the words coming out
will have nowhere to escape to
once my body has taken control and
I rest sound asleep with them
clamoring inside to get out causing
nightmares of letters chasing me
off the side of a cliff I plummet
to the earth and just as I'm about
to become one with the ground
my head pops up; the only damage
is done to the keys saturated
and the once coherent words
on the page now simply residing
a ton of f's and r's rowing a white sea. 10/11/2007 Posted on 10/11/2007 Copyright © 2025 Jeffrey Parren

Posted by Angela Nuzzo on 10/12/07 at 08:39 AM This is hilarious, Jeffrey! I've done the head-bob when playing Solitaire at 4 am. When I was in college, I could tell when I fell asleep in the library because my notes would have sentences that gradually faded to a scribble. ;) Those last 2 lines are great! |
