On Becoming the Warrior

Training makes a soldier;
War, a veteran.
Learning gives knowledge,
But experience grants wisdom.

Killing only makes a killer;
Hatred, a monster.
It is the road, not the rite,
That makes a man.

I have passed the test;
I have become the paladin.
Only love can make a warrior,
And what he is, I am.

I don't know if I agree with that last statement but the last stanza does stand out in this most philosophical read.
