Damascus

by Nicole Assenza

satisfy my sleep for pains
and here’s a dark daydream:

you’re
under skin--
(I like the sting)
and the sway
and the cold burning fires
wish I could get--
under skin
but you
hate the sting

hold yourself to yourself
hold yourself
to those cold burning fires
you’ve so long loved
and thought of as yourself

and I
line myself with lead I’m
on the lines
you see I’m falling on the sides
falling on the road

on the road to Damascus, I fell
in a dark daydream where I fell
on the road to Damascus
I fell in
a dark daydream where I’m--
you’re still under skin
I like the sting and the
sway, how
tight the rope gets

I liked the poem, though I do prefer rhyming poetry myself.
