one time use

by Morgan D Hafele

it's not that i was particularly smooth
or even that we were that drunk
but she saw somethingin the way i spoke
and we were naked in a locationless apartment
before the bars closed.
i don't know who started it
and i can't say i really remember the the way things ended.
it was just another nameless night,
the same moon and clouds sparsley powdering the sky.
she said something about how she wished every morning could be so clear.
i was already dressed
and halfway out the door before i realized she was talking.
who needs attatchments with hangovers?
i mummbled good-bye and had a cigarette lit before i was even in the car.

if looking in the mirror was ever easy, i can't remember the time
because my reflection was never clear.
everytime i looked into my empty eyes
all i ever saw was a wasted past and future
that looked eerily similar
to those dull. blank. eyes.

none of them could ever see it
but maybe now they can understand
the way i do
how a used condom feels in the morning.

Author's Note:

my skin is a quilt stitched with
empty sex and wasted dreams.
care to try your luck?

The true gem here is the bit in your author's comment.

You just commented on my papermate poem? LOL I like the ending here, it's insanely similar. I also like the Haiku...but id rather risk a one night stand then to bet half my $#%@ that it will last forever.
