I Walked Back The Way I Came

by Dave Fitzgerald

We would walk nightly
down this same dark road.
Like a tunnel,
there was an orange glow
at the far end to aim at.
Tonight I stood alone
staring down that road
but there was no warm glow at the end.
I realised that you were my light.
And with nothing to aim for
I turned away and
I walked back the way I came.
