Again

by Terry Olynik

Soldier's severed arm
Still pulsing blood
On a foreign roadside
It's happening again.

A mother's child
Dinnerless at month's end
The pain of emptiness
It's happening again.

Polar bear's frantic efforts
Seeking a foot-hold
On a diminishing ice flow
It's happening again.

Futureless ghetto child
Brandishing a gun
His mother's sorrow
It's happening again.

Elderly's persistent tremor
Choosing vital medicine
Or simple daily bread
It's happening again.

Religious leaders
Teaching love and salvation
Breeding intolerance and hate
It's happening again.

Rich over-fed politicians
Promising sweet relief
In an election year
It's happening again.

Terry, this cuts right to the heart of the issues. Sadness abounds, but does relief for those who really need it? Probably not.

Incredible write and sad sad truth.

It's all to true. Seven stanzas, one evil for each day of the week. What a convenient society we share! A great and poignant poem! This world definitely needs a louder conscience. The mighty, tremulous cry of the Holocaust survivor, "Never Again!" Is answered here. "It's happening again."
