The Lake's surface by Ronald A PavellasThe lake’s surface shivers under the winds from the north and east, making troughs for the falling leaves of the Alm trees along its banks.
Passers-by on the path around the lake hurry now, rather than to stroll as they did just days ago.
The ferry, dutifully plowing the lake from Alvik Strand to Solna Strand, seems shuttered, its passengers hiding.
I sit ten meters above the lake, protected by my room and its window, but I feel winter slither toward me. I shiver.
The ducks seem not to care.

| Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 09/22/07 at 06:13 PM Beautifully evoked atmosphere, lyrical with "shivers" and "slithers". Love the "shuttered" ferry and the "passengers hiding". The details add greatly to the piece --the "Alm" and the place names. The sense of movement, quiet, observation--all delicately poised as winter enters. |
