Freedom's Face by Charlie MorganFreedom is:
Wearing a white sport coat and a pink carnation,
Blue suede shoes.
Carmen Jones taps the snooze button7minutes.
Andrew, and his younger sis, Chennele argue over toothbrushes.
Across a state line, Kenneth Willins dons his cleanest dirty shirt.
Readying for foreman dutiesthe promotion expected, earned.
The red-neck in that work truck in front of me changing lanes.
Three Mexican men in the backseat of the work cab.
All free, exercising freedoms that float the human spirit.
Choice: Freedoms call-to-arms.
A grocery aisle of life: pick, choose, opt.
Need tossed aside for want.
Tossing and turning, America sleeps with a pea under the mattress.
Trumping personal freedoms in for those God-given.
Like fish wondering what water might be, we, in America
Committte-up. Wondering: is it the eagle or the wind that is Freedom.
Freedom is many-tiered, a Dantes hell of definitions.
So many freedoms as to not be counted.
Swimming in a sea of gluttony, we dry-off with Freedoms.
Dress in the togs of Big-Business and snipe the publicprotected.
Freedom can be soiled over time due to misuse.
Understanding: my freedom ends where yours begins.
We are at the mercy of our selfish gene.
Me. Me. Me. At all costs, Me
Freedom: always defined by each heart..
All agree, freedom is a one-way street named: No Worry.
Though the vision of Freedom is a mirage, still we plod.
Onward, upward, Freedom, our aim.
